Game Summary
The Cherokees seemed to have it all clicking on Saturday morning at Aragon HS in San Mateo. The Dons entered the day’s contest 6-1 overall and ranked 78th in the state by Maxpreps.com, but it was Sequoia that controlled the game almost from the opening pitch. Returning 1st-team all PAL JR RHP Kyle Pruhsmeier (1-0) made his first start of the season and went 4 innings, scattering three hits while striking out 7. JR LHP Jack Wangsness held the Dons hitless through the 5th and 6th and SR Matt Smith added a scoreless 7th. The offense came primarily courtesy of the 4/5 spots in the Sequoia lineup, as SR 1B Chris Cook and JR C Kasi Pohahau combined to go 7 X 9 with 7 RBI. Cook was 3 X 5 with a 2B and 4 RBI while Pohahau was a perfect 4 X 4 with 3 RBI and a booming HR to left, his third of the young season. Sequoia played errorless ball in the field as well for the 5th time in the past six games en route to improving to 6-1 on the season in the final tuneup before PAL league play begins next week against Burlingame.
