Game Summary
Opening days are often atypical affairs, and Wednesday afternoon’s contest was no different. In a game where both staffs struggled with command, Sequoia outlasted El Camino 15-10 in the first contest of the season for both teams. Sequoia scored multiple runs in every inning of the game and JR LHP Jack Wangsness (1-0) worked through 3 IP to get the win. Wangsness had two flawless innings that sandwiched a laborious 2nd inning during when the visiting Colts tied the game at 5. But the Cherokees responded immediately with four more runs of their own in the bottom of the 2nd, highlighted by a 3-Run HR from JR C Kasi Pohahau. Pohahau and his brother Tino each finished the game with 2 hits and 3 RBI, while newcomer JR LF Brandon Gee was 3 X 3 with a 3B and SR 3B Matt Smith doubled, knocked in two and scored three runs. SR RHP Chris Cook and JR RHP Travis Mathieu cleaned up the mound duties for Sequoia (1-0) which now prepares to host Menlo School on Friday.
