Game Summary
The last time the Cherokees took the field, the game’s only run came on the final pitch of the game. It would be difficult to find a narrative more different than the one that unfolded Thursday afternoon at Menlo-Atherton’s Bettancourt Field. Sequoia jumped out early scoring three times in the first and seven more in the second to open a 10-1 lead before finally outlasting the Bears 15-12. SR 3B Matt Smith led the Cherokees 16-hit barrage, going 4 X 5 with a pair of doubles and driving in 4. SR CF Thomas Kervick, JR LF Brandon Gee and both Pohahau brothers (JR C Kasi and SO 1B Tino) each added multi-hit games. JR LHP Ben Smith (2-0) was the pitcher of record before a parade of bullpen arms went the rest of the way. It was the second time on the early season that Sequoia (5-1) has reached the 15-run mark, doing so as well on opening day against El Camino. The Cherokees now visit Aragon Saturday morning for an 11:00 AM first pitch.
