Game Summary
In a game that featured 24 combined runs on 28 hits, the Cherokees took a 13-6 lead into the 7th and held off a late Woodside rally to win 13-11. Sequoia broke open a close 3-2 game with six runs in the bottom of the 4th, but Woodside answered immediately back with 4 in the top of the 5th, only to see Sequoia respond with 4 more of their own in the bottom half of the inning. The final box score betrays a strong outing by Sequoia JR LHP Ben Smith who allowed two runs (one earned) in 4 IP while striking out 6 to earn the win and improve to 4-1 on the season. JR C Kasi Pohahau was 3 X 4 with a pair of doubles, 5 RBI and his league-leading 7th HR of the season. The Cherokees also got multi-hit days from SR SS Matt Casey, SR CF Thomas Kervick, JR LF Brandon Gee and SO DH Fabian Nolasco. Nolasco in particular remained hot, and is hitting an even .500 (7 X 14) over the past three weeks since entering the starting lineup. The win snaps a 3-game league losing streak for the Cherokees who improve to (14-8) (5-5 PAL Bay). Sequoia and Woodside will tangle again at Woodside on Friday afternoon.
