Game Summary
In a showdown of two of the top teams in the PAL Bay Division, it was the Cherokees that blinked first when they surrendered three unearned runs in the 5th inning that broke open a scoreless tie. After Carlmont ceded a run in the bottom of the 6th, they tacked on a pair of insurance runs on a 2-run HR from Vinny Bologna and would ultimately need both of them. The Cherokees rallied to score three times in the bottom of the 7th but left the tying run at second base in the 5-4 loss. JR RHP Kyle Pruhsmeier (1-1) allowed 0 ER in 5 IP but took the loss. JR RHP Travis Mathieu recorded a scoreless 6th and JR RHP Brandon Gee allowed the 7th inning HR. JR RF Jack Wangsness had two hits for the Cherokees while Pruhsmeier and SR 3B Matt Smith each added RBI. The loss drops Sequoia (9-2) (3-1 PAL Bay) a half game behind Carlmont at the top of the division. These same two teams will go at it again tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 (in a game rescheduled from it’s original Friday date).
