In a matchup of undefeated PAL Ocean teams, the Cherokees looked down for the count with about four minutes remaining in the game, trailing by nine, and seemingly helpless to stop Half Moon Bay’s vaunted running game from plugging along for first downs. But the Sequoia defense managed a stop, and the offense cashed in quickly when Nick DeMarco found Gavin Beene in the end zone for a TD to pull within two points with 2:30 remaining. After another defensive stop, the Cherokees took over again on their own 35 with just under two minutes remaining, and for the second time in three weeks, DeMarco appeared to engineer a game-winning drive. With just 29 seconds remaining, DeMarco hit WR Dez Frazier over the middle for the go-ahead score, giving Sequoia the six-point edge. Unbelievably, Half Moon Bay took advantage of a wayward kickoff that went out of bounds at midfield, and ran three quick plays, capped off by an 11-yard scoring strike with just six seconds on the clock to snatch the win. With the loss, Sequoia falls to (3-4) (2-1 PAL Ocean).
