The Sequoia Lady Cherokees proved to be the class of the PAL Ocean division at both the varsity and JV levels this year, and both wrapped up league titles with sweeps of their final regular season weeks.
The varsity team finished off a stellar (16-2-4) regular season that included an 11-1 league record and left them two wins clear of second-place San Mateo. On the season, Sequoia netted 40 goals and conceded just six. “We played well,” quipped Head Coach Melissa Schmidt. “It’s nice when you work hard all season and get to see the result. It’s a special group of girls and they deserve it.” They now await their postseason fate, which will be determined at the CCS seeding meeting this weekend.
The JV squad was even more dominant, amassing a record of 18-1-1. The campaign was one of the most sterling in recent memory, as the JV girls outscored their opponents 69-3 on the season and did not allow a goal during league play.
