Three matches in to the early season, Sequoia badminton already has one win under their collective belt and despite losses to two of the league’s best programs, a positive outlook is in the air.
In the season opener against Carlmont, JR Jake Henige provided the highlight, with a hard-fought 3-game win providing the lone point on the afternoon for Sequoia. The second match had an entirely different feel, and this time it was Sequoia edging South San Francisco by the narrowest of margins, 8-7. Impressive individual victories came from Duncan Stewart and Jack Zhong, and doubles wins from the pairs of Nic Lozben amd Liam Cresol, Henry Robertson and Roberto Peccei, Jacob Givens and Angela Knov and Oliver Soden and Dana Nguyen. The third match saw Sequoia take on perennial PAL powerhouse and preseason title-favorite Mills. The 15-0 final score failed to show the outstanding effort by several Sequoia athletes, including Lani Komatsu and Tommy Hartman, who lost closely contest matches by scores of 21-19 and 21-18 respectively.
The team will travel to Aragon for a 4:00 start Thursday afternoon.
