Game Summary

In the final game before beginning league play, Sequoia fell behind early, made a game of it, and eventually came up short in a 6-2 loss on Friday afternoon, the Cherokees first defeat at the hands of Half Moon Bay since 2013. SR LHP Jack Wangsness (1-1) was unlucky in the first inning, as the Cougars turned a walk and two bloop hits into a three-run rally. Sequoia answered back with a run in the 3rd when SR C Trevor Crowell led off with a single and eventually came in to score on a passed ball. The Cherokees best chance to square the game came in the 6th, when SR SS Kyle Pruhsmeier opened the inning with a bunt single and SR CF Brandon Gee followed with a double. A wild pitch plated Pruhsmeier and moved Gee to 3rd, but a strikeout and a flyout stranded the tying run 90 feet away. JR RHP Andrew Williams relieved Wangsness and was promptly greeted with Half Moon Bay’s second 3-run rally of the afternoon to secure the final margin. Crowell led the Cherokees with 3 hits, while Gee added 2. Sequoia (1-4) will get ready to open PAL Play Wednesday against Capuchino.
