Game Summary

Just four days after the Cherokees thumped Capuchino in the league opener for both teams, the Mustangs returned the favor and turned back Sequoia 5-1 on Monday afternoon. Sequoia scored in the top of the 1st when SR SS Trevor Crowell singled, stole second and scored on an RBI hit from SR RHP Kyle Pruhsmeier. Pruhsmeier made his first appearance of the season on the mound, going two innings, surrendering one run on just one hit before giving way to JR RHP Rhoan Tussy (0-2) who pitched effectively into the 5th, but hurt himself with a couple of walks that would eventually come around to score. Capuchino got to Tussy for 1 in the 3rd and 2 more in the 5th. SR RHP Travis Mathieu walked in a 5th Capuchino run before wiggling out of the jam, but the damage was more than enough on this day as the Sequoia bats were all too silent. The Cherokees managed just one baserunner between the 2nd and 6th innings, a streak broken only by a leadoff single from SR LF Brandon Gee who was promptly wiped off the bases on a 6-4-3 double play. In the 7th, SR RF Jack Wangsness led off with a double and JR PH Tino Pohahau followed with a single, but a popup and a pair of strikeouts stranded the runners and dropped the Cherokees to (2-5) (1-1 PAL Bay).
