Game Summary

Sequoia fell behind early, rallied late, and eventually came up just short in a non-league loss to visiting Gunderson on Thursday afternoon. The Cherokees scored four times in the bottom of the 7th and loaded the bases, bringing the winning run to the plate, but could pull no closer, succumbing 8-5 for their 8th consecutive loss. SR RHP Travis Mathieu (0-2) made his first start of the season on the mound and went 3 IP, surrendering six hits, five runs (4 ER) before giving way to SR RHP Joey Berljafa, SR RHP Antonio Harden and JR RHP Alejandro Palomarez who took it the rest of the way. SO SS Kian Mirkia had two hits in his varsity debut, and SR 1B Paul Garcia fueled the 7th inning rally with an RBI double. Sequoia (2-12) (1-3 PAL Bay) will travel to Maria Carrillo of Santa Rosa on Saturday.
